Portrait and self-portrait tips and ideas

Use a tripod. Seriously. While it’s possible to get good photos while you’re hanging on to your camera at arms-length, it’s a lot easier if you’ve got the freedom to move around a bit.

The settings in which you make pictures of people are important because they add to the viewer's understanding of your subject. The room in which a person lives or works, their house, the city street they walk, the place in which they seek relaxation—whatever it is, the setting provides information about people and tells us something about their lives. Seek balance between subject and environment. Include enough of the setting to aid your image, but not so much that the subject is lost in it.

Types of Magazine Covers

1. Early Magazine Covers- Almost always paintings, tend to be religious, high morals or asking questions about your morals.

2. The Poster Cover- One big picture, usually no or small border, unobtrusive text, very cool or recognizable text DISADVANTAGES: Cover doesn't really tell you about the magazine,no entry points, very risky to do this kind of cover.

3. Pictures Married with Type- Words help the photo, don't interfere with the subject of the picture. ADVANTAGES: Can see the photo better, doesn't distract from the picture, words and pictures go together.
DISADVANTAGES: don't know what else is in there, not many entry points into the magazine.

4. In the Forest of Words- Tons of text on the picture, colorful, different fonts, different sizes, ADVANTAGES: a lot of different entry points to the magazine. DISADVANTAGES: Too much to look at, overboard with the words, covers your photos,

Welcome Back:)

During the whole winter break, this picture kept popping into my head, and it just gives me a lot of good ideas for pictures in the future

I love this picture because of the way she just pays no attention to the paparazzi and is just getting ready to take her pictures. And the way that she's in a gorgeous white dress and everyone around her is wearing black.

This picture kind of leaves you hanging (see what i did there?) and it makes you think up scenarios in your head. did she fall? was she just in practice or was it at something big like the Olympics? was she hurt? ect... you just don't know! And the simplicity of the picture just really catches my attention.

1. I can't really say much about a favorite or "best song of 2010" Because i have like, 28931046138 favorite songs, so i'll have to say that one of them was This Ain't Nothin by Craig Morgan. It really makes you think about your life and how even though things seem bad to you, compared with the tragedies other people have to deal with, your boyfriend problems and friend drama are nothing in comparison.

"He said this ain't nothin' time won't erase
And this ain't nothin' money can't replace
He said you sit and watch your loving wife of fifty years fighting for her life
Then you hold her hand til her heart of gold stops pumping
Well Yeah boy that's something,
So this ain't nothin'
"

2.  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Black Swan are my two favorite movies of the year. My mom and I have read all of the Harry Potter books, probably 20 times, and when i was little, my mom would read the books to me as a bed time story. It's always been really, the only thing we've really had in common. We've always went to go see alllllll of the harry potter movies' midnight openings and this one was no different! The 7th book had always been one of my favorites and my mom and i, even though we don't always agree on things or get along, but that all changes when the movies come out so it was kind of an bonding thing for me and my mom. Plus, it was a really good movie.
Black Swan.... again, my mom and i decided to go see this movie, because hey, it's about a ballerina, I've done ballet and pointe since i was little.... why not! My mom said that she heard that it was kinda weird and i only knew that it was about a ballerina, so neither one of us really knew what we were in for. Let me start by saying that, with all my years in dance and ballet, i'd never taken the time to learn the story of Swan Lake. I'd seen parts of the ballet, and i know all the music, but not enough to get the entire story.
Anyways, i could talk on and on about this movie, but i'll just get to the point (haha, point... pointe... ha:) ) by saying that that was one of the most intense movies i've ever seen in my life and that i was well shaken after it was over. Now, i don't get scared easily, and i'm not even sure exactly how to explain how i felt after the movie, so i guess "shaken" will have to do. I don't know know if you've seen the movie or not, but you should. And i guess, it didn't effect my mom as much as it did me, because i know how it feels to have the pressure of perfection pressing down on you, being a dancer. It's not as intense as it was in the movie, because she was a professional dancer and i'm not, but still, the pressure is still there. I know how it feels to have the pressure to completely understand the role your are cast as, or to give off a certain feeling while you are dancing to try to make others feel it too.... It's an incredibly hard thing to do. This movie was, not only a great movie, but also effected me on a personal level, so i think it will be my favorite of the year.

This Picture honestly scares me... and i have no idea why.
