Avoiding Mergers

This picture is slightly amusing to me because it looks like the girl who is bent over has spikes and smoke coming out of her back. The photographer wasn't looking for mergers or else he/she would have chosen a different view point that didn't make her look like a dragon. Also the could have avoided another merger by moving over a little to the left so he didn't get the random guy's arm in the picture.

Framing:)

This picture is the perfect picture for framing, the only thing i don't like is the light post sticking into the picture. But other than that, the stark contrast of the black buildings and the bright blue sky is very nice. also the way you can see the towers between the two is perfect image of framing.

Balance:)

I really like how the "S" curve of the people walking adds a kind of softness to the picture. It's nicely balanced for two reasons, one  because of the fact that the line starts in one corner and ends in the opposite corner, But also because the kind of mirror image the shadows of the walkers makes.

Lines

This picture is a very nicely composed picture. It shows off its lines with all of the lines in the background but also in the foreground. I like the diagonal lines of the pole they are hanging the flag on, and the fact that it draws your eyes down to the firefighters.

Rule of Thirds:)

This picture is a really good picture, probably one of my favorites (my favorites are the ones i have posted for simplicity) but it is a very good picture for rule of thirds because the boy and his dad are the only things that could possibly be the subject so your eyes automatically drawn to them. If you drew your "tic tac toe" box vertically then they would fall right on the line.

Simplicity:)

This picture is the Perfect picture of simplicity because the only subject in the picture is the man crying. There is no question if he is the subject or not because he's the only thing that is perfectly in focus. The background is very simple and does not distract your eyes from the subject.

El Camera

Camera Obscura: Latin for a dark room, where the word "camera" came from ( I love latin:) )
Visible Spectrum: The portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that can be detected by the human eye
Film Frame:  One of the many single photographic images in a motion picture. The individual frames are separated by frame lines. Normally, 24 frames are needed for one second of film
Shutter: When pressed, the shutter of the camera is "released", so that it opens to capture a picture, and then closes, allowing an exposure time as determined by the shutter speed setting (which may be automatic)

The inside of a Digital Camera:

Aperture: the opening in a photographic lens that admits the light, from the latin, apertura, which come from the word apertus, which is the past participle of aperire which means  to open
Shutter:  a mechanical device that limits the passage of light; especially : a camera component that allows light to enter by opening and closing an aperture
Exposure:
a. The act of exposing sensitized photographic film or plate.
b. A photographic plate or a piece of film so exposed.
c. The amount of radiant energy needed to expose a photographic film.
Depth of Field:In photography, the distance in front of and behind the subject that appears to be in focus
F-stop:The measurement of light able to pass through the photographic lens
Focal Length: The focal length of an optical system is a measure of how strongly the system converges or diverges  light

Just because i love pictures...

The PINHOLE CAMERA is probably the coolest thing i've ever seen...

There are many reasons why i like this picture a lot. First of all, the subject matter is very simple. It's just a bunch of cherries thrown in a bowl and set on a counter. But the reason i really like this picture is the angle, it makes the whole thing. If the photographer had taken a picture of the exact same bowl of cherries, except with no angel, just looking at it straight on, the picture wouldn't look as good and would feel very plain. I also like the fact that it's a sharp picture thats in focus! This picture really looks like it was taken by a $300 lens, not a oatmeal box!:)

Onto the bad...

Yeah.... this is the picture. I really really don't like it. I thought i was going to have a hard time finding one i  REALLY didn't like and could write about, but the second i saw this picture, i knew this was it. Well, there's just not much to it.. It's (I'm guessing) a boy(?) with no shirt on, and his head leaned back. It seems, also, by the way his shoulders are hunched up that his weight is on his hands and he's leaning on them,. Wellllll you just really can't tell whats going on... i  mean, maybe there was something behind him that he was trying to capture in the picture...but failed. One, it's blurry. Two, it would be kinda cool (i guess) if the contrast of his skin and the background was more pronounced ( he needs to stay out of the sun next time;) ) and Three, you should kinda be able to tell whats going on in the picture that you're looking at.
